Print and Digitally Projected Image Rules

General Rules

1.  The event will be controlled by a committee comprising one representative from each of the South Devon Photographic League clubs to which representatives of the organising clubs can be co-opted.

2.  Normally the event shall be held in May and the host club will ensure it does not conflict with other photographic events.

3.  The Battle is open to Photographic Clubs, Societies and Groups invited to the event but necessarily limited by accommodation at the venue.

4.   The aim of the Battle is to bring together members of as many clubs as possible from the county for a friendly event. These rules will be used to settle disputes but it will be up to the organisers to interpret them in as friendly a way as possible.

5.   An entry fee is required from each club for each section entered to offset the hiring of a hall and the judges expenses. There will be a further charge to cover refreshments for those attending and there will also be a raffle to help the host club.

6.   A different club will host the event each year and will make arrangements for the judge(s), hall, etc. A file of information should be available from the previous year's host club listing contacts, etc.

7. The judge(s) should be from outside the area of the Battle or, at least, not associated with any invited club. The judge's decision is final. Any complaints or suggestions should be addressed to the Battle organiser after the event.

8.   The costs of engraving the trophies will be borne by the host club.

Entries

1.  Each club will submit a panel of 5 prints and/or 5 individual digital images. (See special rules below.)

2.  No individual photographer may submit more than two prints and one digital image.

3.  All entries must not have been entered in a previous Battle.

4.  All entries can be collected by clubs at the end of the Battle, except for the winning panel of prints and the top digital image which may be retained for a short period for publication in the local press, or for the presentation of prizes.

5.  Entry to the Battle assumes acceptance of these rules.

Prints

1.  Prints must have the name of the author and the club on the back but should give no clue to either on the front.

2.  Each club will be assigned a table, where it can arrange its prints. Each club to supply its own board of approximately 4 feet square.  Each board should be robust enough to be moved around the hall on the day.  Each club to supply a support (detachable) to enable their board to stand on the table.  The competing clubs may, if they wish, cover the board with a background material which must be of a single colour only.  Each club to bring their own fixings (pins etc).

3.  Each panel of prints must have a common theme or style.

4.  The judge will be asked to comment on all the entries and then choose the panels considered to be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended, having taken into account the quality of the prints, their adherence to a theme or style and the overall presentation. The judge will also choose individual prints considered to be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended, not necessarily from the winning panel.

5.  Prints may be colour or monochrome or both.

6.  Prints should be large enough to be seen by the audience in a fair sized hall. A minimum of 10" by 8" is recommended.

7.  Representatives of each club must bring their prints to the Battle and put them on their board. If this is not possible, they should be handed to the organiser beforehand, with instructions for layout.

8.  The club with the winning panel will be awarded "The Lumb Perpetual Trophy" to be held for one year.

9.  The author of the best print will be awarded “The Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club Plaque” to be held for one year.

Digitally Projected Images

1.  Digital images will be considered individually and although viewed as a set of 5 there will be no consideration of them as having a common theme or style.

2.  The judge will be asked to comment on all the entries and then choose the sets considered to be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended. The judge will also choose individual digitally projected images considered to be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended, not necessarily from the winning set.

3.  The winning club will be awarded "The London Camera Exchange Perpetual Trophy" to be held for one year.

4.  The author of the best digitally projected image will be awarded “The Newton Abbot Photographic Club Trophy” to be held for one year.
